The Pioneer Power Show started in 1981. Tractors, Wheat Threshing/Binding, Bread Making, Swap Meet, Horse Demos, Equipment Parade & More in Union Gap every 3rd weekend in August. Hosted by The Central Washington Antique Farm Equipment Club, and the Central Washington Agricultural Museum.
Rob Gallion and his wife Karen were the Grand Marshalls this year and the featured equipment was Massey-Harris.
This year I was the Swap Meet Manager. We started promoting the Swap Meet on social media in March in hopes to get more vendors. With the help of Hidden Treasures Thrift Store, we had twice as many vendors as the year before. I want to thank the staff at Hidden Treasures Thrift Store for all their help and support.
On Thursday, August 17th, 2023 I set up the Swap Meet Manager Booth up in Union Gap, Washington out front of the Central Washington Agricultural Museum by the foot bridge for the annual Pioneer Power Show & Swap Meet. Then with the help of volunteers we got the swap meet area set up and ready for the vendors.
Saturday and Sunday the Pioneer Power Show & Swap Meet started at 8 AM and ran until 5 PM. There were many fun things to do and to watch; Shop the Swap Meet, tram rides from the parking lot into the museum, tractor pulls, horse powered farm equipment demos, sawmill demo, apple packing line demo, a working blacksmith shop, music, rides for the kids, equipment parades, quilt show, Vintage Snowmobile on display, and so much more. It was a very fun event for the whole family.
These events takes many volunteers and we do not have enough. We could use your volunteer help to keep these shows going on. If you are interested in helping, click here for info on volunteer opportunities.

Central Washington Antique Farm Equipment Club: Wheat Binding
Report & photos by Clay Graham / CegPics.com
On Wednesday July 12th 2023, some Central Washington Antique Farm Equipment Club members met in Zillah, Washington to use an antique wheat binder to cut and bind wheat for next month’s Pioneer Power Show.
The antique wheat binder started off good until it hit some tall weeds that were growing in the wheat field. Members were able to make a pass around the field with a lot stops. They decided to stop for the day to make some repairs to the wheat binder and finish the field on Friday.

The best kind of OLD FASHIONED FUN for the WHOLE FAMILY! Come check out the Pioneer Power Show & Swap Meet – it’s the oldest running event in Union Gap – since 1981, what once was common place, is now one of the most unique offerings around! The sheer size of the event will astound you so wear your walking shoes and bring a stroller for the younger kids!
Admission is only $5 per adult, and kids under 12 get in free! Check out all the acres of things to see & do… you’ll be glad you did, read on ->
Vintage tractors, yep, we’ve got tons of those to wander around and look at (or enjoy during the equipment parade)! From beautifully restored to still rusty – plus old trucks, even a magnificently restored 1800’s horse drawn funeral coach! Hit & miss single cylinder engines too. Stop by the colliapy display and operate them yourself!
See Draft horses demonstrating antique horse drawn farm equipment and other demos, courtesy of the Horse~n~Harness Group of the Central WA Ag Museum – you’ll love it!
Meet the quilting ladies and look over their amazing quilts hanging in the Lindeman building!
Stop by the Blacksmith Shop and see items crafted on the spot out of fire-heated metal.
Catch the antique sawmill demo where the guys will cut logs with an enormous old blade – it’s impressive – they often cut the biggest lumber sizes in the valley to help Forestry rebuild bridges because the size they need are no longer available!
Be sure to watch the vintage apple packing demo, where they’ll fire up the old packing line and give a packing demo, explaining how it was done in the days of yesteryear (and how little they were paid!)
Check out the new Lindeman tractors exhibit and find out how these now famous crawlers got their start right here in the Yakima Valley!
But ALSO- Tractor & lawn tractor pulls, want to join? Call the museum for information.
Grab a spot to watch the equipment parade where they’ll introduce the tractors and equipment brought from all over the Pacific Northwest.
Stop by the BREAD SHACK! That’s right, they’ll serve you up fresh baked bread, with your choice of butter, jams, and more – for only a donation!
Savor sweet corn on the cob, ice cold watermelon, kettle corn, steam powered home-made ice cream & more!
Wander the Ag Museum and look over the exhibits – catch a tram ride through the museum!
Kids are invited to join a scavenger hunt, stopping by different sections of the show to get a stamp so they can enter and try to win a bike or scooter. Plus each entry gets a free ice cream!
PLUS the Pacific NW Vintage Snowmobile Club will be BACK, hanging out in the shade with their amazing vintage snowmobile display!
Bring the whole family, pick up grandma and grandpa on the way and spend the day making memories! We’re not exaggerating when we tell you you’ll be glad you stopped to check out the oldest still running event in Union Gap – it’s an experience to remember!
Follow this event as we will be adding schedule information and additional features.
This event is held at the Central WA Agricultural Museum, 4508 Main Street in Union Gap – within Fullbright Park. Find more information about the Pioneer Power Show at www.visituniongap.com
